The International Society of Progressive Psychoanalysis (ISPP) is a professional association dedicated to fostering progressive psychoanalytic training pathways that strike a balance between rigour and flexibility. ISPP exists to uphold the high standards of psychoanalytic practice while fostering innovation, inclusivity, and greater global accessibility
At ISPP, the word progressive reflects our commitment to moving psychoanalysis forward, through honouring the depth and rigour of analytic tradition while rethinking how psychoanalysts are formed, supported, and recognised. It challenges institutional elitism, expands access, and embraces pluralism across theoretical schools. We aim for a progressive approach that is pluralistic, contemporary, and globally accessible.
We recognize both structured and rigorous customized training routes, tailored to the candidate’s background, context, and analytic focus.
Members gain access to an international network of training coorindatiors, supervsiors and training analysts.
ISPP upholds rigorous standards of psychoanalytic formation while removing unnecessary barriers based on elitism, geography, or institutional hierarchy.

“Progressive” refers to our commitment to flexibility, international accessibility, responsiveness to real-world training contexts, and contemporary psychoanalytic theories, without compromising the depth or integrity of psychoanalytic formation.
No. ISPP is psychoanalytic society, not a training institute. Candidates typically complete their education and supervision through institutes or coordinated programs that meet ISPP standards.
A training analysis is a personal psychoanalysis conducted throughout the course of your psychoanalytic training, with a focus on deepening self-awareness and analytic functioning. It differs from general therapy in its depth, duration, and role in analytic formation.
